Solid wood frame, hand-painted off-white, distressed and wax-polished in shabby chic style. SGG Miralite® Pure Diamant 4 mm OptiWhite glass. Mirror made to measure.

This mirror in a white solid wood frame is made for those who appreciate craftsmanship and the quiet charm of Provence-inspired interiors. The frame is hand-painted in an off-white tone and then rubbed back and polished with wax, revealing the natural grain of the wood and its warmer, darker undertone. Decorative mirrors finished this way bring warmth and calm into a room while opening the space up visually. They sit comfortably in classic settings as well as in contemporary interiors, where the white frame becomes a soft counterpoint to minimalist furniture. Every piece is made to measure — both the dimensions and the finish are agreed individually before work begins.

Where it fits

Hand-distressed white wall mirrors feel most at home in shabby chic, French country, rustic and classic interiors. They work with rooms dominated by white, beige, grey and soft pastels, and they show especially well against muted walls — dove grey, cream, milk or sand — where their distinctive character is not overwhelmed by a busy background. Place one above a bathroom basin, over a hallway console, beside a dressing table in the bedroom, or as the central point of a sofa wall in the living room. The same mirror works equally well in a dining room, where it catches the light from the lamp above the table and visually deepens the space.

Craftsmanship

The frame is built from solid wood and joined at the corners with wooden dowels — a traditional construction that holds its shape and resists warping over years of use. The moulding is first sanded carefully, then painted in an off-white tone using a high-pigment paint range developed for fine craft work. Once the paint is dry, the edges and selected sections of the profile are rubbed back by hand, exposing the natural grain of the wood and its warmer, darker undertone. The whole frame is then hand-polished with wax, which protects the surface and gives it a soft, satin sheen. The moulding measures 70 mm wide and 35 mm deep — a defined yet still light frame that holds its proportions equally well on small formats and tall floor mirrors. The panel and the sides of the frame are painted in the same colour as the front, so the mirror looks complete from every angle. Traditional craft techniques ensure the durability and elegance of each piece.

How this frame differs from mass production

Mass-produced frames are usually made from glued board wrapped in wood-effect foil, or from raw mouldings spray-painted in a single, factory-uniform shade. In this frame, every step is done by hand — from sanding through painting to distressing and waxing. The aged effect does not come from a printed pattern but from the actual rubbing back of paint, which is why each piece carries its own, unrepeatable rhythm of wear. Decorative mirrors made this way are never identical, which is why they tend to be treated more as a piece of craft than as a serial accessory. The collection includes both wall mirrors in this finish and free-standing mirrors that can be leaned against a bedroom or dressing-room wall.

Functionality

The mirror is prepared for both portrait and landscape mounting — two hidden brackets are fixed to the back of the frame, so you can choose the orientation freely. The backing is an MDF board that protects the glass from dust and mechanical damage. The 4 mm SGG Miralite® Pure Diamant OptiWhite glass has a low iron-oxide content, so the reflection stays neutral and free of the greenish cast typical of standard mirrors. The waxed finish handles everyday bathroom humidity well, though we recommend avoiding direct contact between the frame surface and water.

Optional: anti-fog mirror with heating mat

A heating mat can be fitted behind the glass on request. Once connected to the electrical system, it gently warms the mirror surface and prevents condensation from forming — particularly useful in bathrooms with a bath or shower and no window. Please contact us before ordering so the mat can be sized to your chosen format.

Personalisation and made-to-measure orders

Each mirror is built to individual order — the width, height and frame colour are agreed with the client before work begins. Off-white is one of many available finishes; the workshop uses a high-pigment paint range that allows for both cool and warm shades of white, beige, grey and soft pastels. Lead time depends on the current workshop schedule and is confirmed individually after we receive your enquiry. To order a mirror in a non-standard size or colour, please get in touch by email with the dimensions and any colour inspiration you would like to share.
