Custom Frames for Canvas Prints & Photo on Canvas

Bought a canvas print, a photo on canvas or an art reproduction and need the right frame to turn it into a finished piece? Or did the canvas arrive rolled and you are not sure what to do next? In my workshop I make frames for canvas prints to measure, matched to the piece itself and to the room it will hang in. I can also take care of everything that comes before the frame — choosing and building the stretcher, stretching the canvas and making the finished frame — so you do not have to find one person to stretch the canvas and another to build the frame. It all happens in one place, and I ship worldwide.

A complete service - from print to ready-to-hang

Many people order a canvas print and only afterwards start wondering how to get it on the wall. A print on its own is not a finished picture yet. Before it can be framed, the canvas has to be stretched correctly over a stretcher and then fitted into a well-chosen frame. In my workshop I carry the whole process out from start to finish, so framing your canvas print does not mean coordinating several suppliers.

Did your canvas arrive rolled? I will take it from there

More and more canvas prints and reproductions are sold as rolled canvas. It travels well and is less likely to be damaged, but once it is unrolled the question is: what now? To get a rolled canvas ready to display, a proper stretcher has to be built and the canvas stretched over it correctly. This is usually the point where people start looking for one workshop to stretch the canvas and another to make the frame.

If you have a canvas print or reproduction on a roll, I will handle this stage for you. I build a stretcher sized to the piece, stretch the canvas and make a frame that fits its dimensions and the character of the room.

Have it shipped straight from the print lab

You do not have to receive the print yourself and then arrange another shipment for framing. If your canvas print or reproduction is printed to order, the canvas can often be sent directly from the print lab to my workshop. Once it arrives I build the stretcher, stretch the canvas and make the frame to the plan we agreed. Fewer shipments mean less risk to the piece and a simpler process for you.

Which frame suits a canvas print?

There is no single answer - the right frame for a canvas print depends on the style of the piece, its colours and the interior it is going into. That is why I make several kinds of frame for canvas prints and help you choose the right one.

Floater (floating) frame

In a floater frame the canvas sits inside the profile with a visible gap around it, so the piece appears to float. It is a contemporary look that works especially well with canvas prints and gives them a light, gallery-like feel.

Classic rabbet frame

A classic frame with a rabbet wraps the edge of the canvas and seats the piece inside the moulding. It is a more traditional effect that suits reproductions of paintings and warmer interiors. If you are framing an original painting rather than a print, my guide on frames for canvas paintings covers that case in detail.

Unusual shapes - including tondo

A canvas print does not have to be a rectangle. If your image is circular, I can stretch the printed canvas over a square stretcher and frame it so that only the circle — a tondo — is on show. I approach other unusual formats and shapes the same way.

The stretcher matters

The frame is not the only thing that decides how long your piece lasts — so does the stretcher the canvas is tensioned over. As standard I build pine stretchers, sized properly to the work. The thin, mass-produced stretchers that often come with budget canvas prints can be unstable and, over time, let the canvas ripple; a solid, well-prepared stretcher avoids that. For more valuable prints and reproductions I decide on the materials individually, assessing the piece and matching the solution to what you need and what works for you.

Finishes - painted, gilded, floating and custom shapes

A well-chosen frame can completely change how a piece reads - not only oil paintings, but reproductions, fine-art photography and modern canvas prints too. Contrary to a common assumption, a handmade frame is not reserved for valuable originals; a thoughtfully designed frame can give real presence to a canvas print or a reproduction.

It is often the frame that decides the final impression. The right moulding width, colour, proportions and finish turn the piece into a proper part of the room. In my workshop I make painted frames, frames gilded with genuine gold leaf, floater (floating) frames and frames in unusual shapes — each made to order and matched to the specific work.

From print to finished piece - step by step

  1. You order your canvas print or reproduction.
  2. We agree on the type of frame, the colour and the finish.
  3. The print is sent straight to my workshop, or you send me canvas you already have.
  4. I build a stretcher sized to the piece.
  5. I stretch the canvas.
  6. I make the frame to measure.
  7. You receive a finished piece, ready to hang.

How to order a frame for your canvas print

If your canvas print is already stretched, just send me its exact dimensions and the depth of the stretcher. If you have canvas on a roll, send a photo of the piece and its measurements — I will advise how best to prepare it and suggest a frame matched to your interior. If you are unsure about the colour, the width of the frame or the finish, you can also send a photo of the spot where the piece will hang.

Worldwide shipping - USA, UK, Europe and beyond

I ship finished frames and framed canvas prints worldwide, including the USA, the UK and across Europe. My workshop is in Poland; wherever you are, I pack every piece carefully for transport. If you happen to be nearby, you are also welcome to get in touch and collect in person.
