Frame hand-made from solid wood and water-gilded with real 22 karat moon gold leaf. Turquoise front painted by hand and sealed with a protective lacquer. Decorative mirror made to measure.

This mirror in a turquoise and gold frame brings a confident colour together with the cool sheen of moon gold. A double line of gold leaf — one along the outer edge of the moulding, the second at the inner edge next to the glass — draws a clean, geometric outline that lights the frame without overpowering it. A glamour mirror for interiors that value precision of form and a defined colour accent.

Where it fits

Turquoise with cool gold reads well against neutral walls — greys, sand tones, off-whites. It also sits strongly against dark navy or black furniture, adding depth without visual overload.

Particularly suited to:

  • entrance halls and hallways — as a decorative anchor above a console;
  • living rooms in glamour, art déco and modern-classic styles;
  • bedrooms and dressing rooms — above a vanity or chest of drawers;
  • hotel interiors, boutiques, lobbies and reception areas.

The mirror can be mounted vertically or horizontally, which opens up placement options. It works as a wall mirror above a fireplace or console, and — at the right height — as a floor mirror leaning against the wall.

How it is made

The frame is built in the workshop from solid wood. Each 45° mitred corner is joined with wooden dowels — a mechanical joint that holds true over the years and does not open up the way joints in lighter, laminated profiles do.

The front is water-gilded with real 22 karat moon gold leaf, laid over a prepared bole one leaf at a time. Moon gold is an alloy with a higher silver content — its reflection is noticeably cooler and paler than classic 23 karat yellow, without being chrome. Think of it as a soft, pale gold with a silvery cast. The gilded areas are sealed with shellac, and the whole frame is then finished with a protective lacquer that guards both the gold and the turquoise paint against scratches and colour shift.

The turquoise is hand-painted. Front, sides and back of the frame carry the same tone — the mirror reads as one piece of colour from every angle, including from the side. The moulding profile is stepped: the outer edge is marked by a narrow gold line, and a second, finer line of gold runs along the inner edge next to the glass. Between the two lies the broad turquoise field. The double gold line is the defining drawing of the frame — especially visible under raking light.

How this differs from mass-produced mirrors

Factory mirrors are normally built with plywood, MDF wrapped in foil or primer, and imitation gold — a copper-and-zinc alloy that tarnishes within months. Every element here is different:

  • solid wood in the moulding — not MDF, not plywood;
  • dowelled corners — not staples;
  • real 22 karat gold leaf — not imitation;
  • paint brushed on by hand — not sprayed.

The outcome: a frame whose shine does not fade over the years, a profile that holds its dimensions, and a colour that keeps its depth. The same standard applies to both wall mirrors and floor-leaning mirrors made in the workshop.

Functionality

The mirror ships ready to hang vertically or horizontally — wall brackets are fitted on the back of the frame. The MDF backing stabilises the structure and protects the mirror glass from the wall side. SGG Miralite® Pure Diamant 4 mm glass in the OptiWhite variant offers elevated clarity and a neutral reflection temperature — the turquoise of the frame does not pick up the greenish cast that standard float mirror glass produces.

Option: bevelled edge

On request the glass can be finished with a ground bevel up to 20 mm wide. The bevel runs around the full perimeter of the glass — around 5 mm is covered by the frame rebate, the remaining 15 mm stays visible. It creates a soft break of light between the mirror and the inner edge of the frame. With a frame in this colour the bevel reinforces the drawing of the double gold line, optically deepening the geometry.

Option: anti-fog mirror with demister pad

For bathroom installations a demister pad can be mounted behind the glass. Wired to the lighting circuit (usually on the same switch), the pad warms the glass and prevents condensation from forming — the surface stays clear even after a long shower.

Made to measure

Every parameter adjusts to your interior:

  • Size — any dimensions within the workshop's technical range;
  • Frame shade — beyond the standard turquoise, over one hundred shades from a curated, richly pigmented paint range;
  • Gold type — 22 karat moon (as in this model), 23 karat yellow, 12 karat white, 6 karat white, plus palladium and pure silver leaf;
  • Bevel — with or without;
  • Bathroom version — with demister pad.

Orders are placed by email once the dimensions and finish options are agreed. I can work from physical paint samples, from reference photos of your interior, or from specific shade codes. Each mirror is made by hand in the workshop, and the number of pieces per year is limited — it is worth confirming availability before ordering.
