Hand-made frame gilded with genuine 22-karat moon gold leaf along both profiled edges. Light grey (Venetian Grey) panel hand-painted on the front and sides. Mirror made to measure.
The mirror in a Toskania 78 frame is a contemporary decorative mirror that pairs the cool sheen of moon gold with a softly grey panel in a Venetian Grey tone. The profiled moulding, 56 mm wide, is gilded along both the outer and inner edges with genuine 22-karat moon gold leaf. The flat central panel and the sides of the frame are hand-painted in a muted, light grey shade. The contrast between cool gilding and quiet grey gives the piece a distinctive character — at home in both classic and contemporary interiors.
Where it works
Toskania 78 suits interiors built on a restrained palette — greys, whites, creams, light timber, natural linen. The cool tone of moon gold avoids the warm, palatial note typical of yellow gilding, which makes the frame an easy companion for minimalist living rooms, modern-classic bedrooms, subtly glamorous hallways or pale bathrooms. The mirror reinforces the character of an interior designed with restraint, where ornament is meant to be an accent rather than the leading voice.
It also works in commercial spaces — boutiques, beauty studios, hotels, law offices — where the level of hand-finishing distinguishes the room from off-the-shelf furnishing.

How it is made
Every frame is built in my workshop — from cutting the wood and joining the corners by hand, through surface preparation and painting, to the final gilding. Corners are joined with wooden dowels, which keeps the construction stable and resistant to warping over many years of use.
The gilding is laid leaf by leaf, in genuine 22-karat moon gold. Moon gold is cooler and noticeably paler than the standard 23-karat yellow leaf — closer to a very light, faintly silvery tone — so it integrates with the rest of an interior rather than competing with it. Both edges of the profiled moulding are gilded: the outer edge and the inner edge running along the glass. The flat panel between them, and the sides of the frame, are painted in the same light grey shade, holding the composition together.
Traditional craft techniques ensure the durability and elegance of every piece. The surface is additionally protected so that it keeps its appearance for many years.
What sets this frame apart from mass production
Most „gold" frames available on the market are mouldings painted with a gold-imitation paint or wrapped in a thin gold-coloured foil. They tend to lose their lustre over time, darken or peel along the edges. Toskania 78 is a wooden frame, joined with proper joinery, gilded with genuine gold leaf of a known karat — no shortcuts, no imitations.
Each mirror — whether from my range of wall mirrors or built to order as a leaning floor mirror — is made individually, in response to a specific order. No two pieces are identical: hand-gilding leaves subtle variations in texture and the way light falls across the surface, which is a hallmark of craft, not a flaw.
Function
Toskania 78 is a wall mirror fitted with brackets that allow it to be hung vertically or horizontally. The HDF backing protects the silvering from the wall side. The SGG Miralite Pure Diamant 4 mm pane, made of OptiWhite glass, gives a reflection free of the greenish cast typical of ordinary mirrors — whites stay white, colours read true. The reverse coating blocks light from passing through, so the piece reads as a single, coherent surface even in brightly lit rooms.
Option: ground bevel
A version with a ground bevel up to 20 mm wide is available. About 5 mm of that bevel sits hidden under the frame's rebate, so roughly 15 mm remains visible at the edge of the glass. The bevel adds a delicate prismatic quality where it meets the frame and reinforces the sense of depth.
Additional option: anti-fog mirror with heating mat (demister)
For bathroom installations a heating mat (demister) can be applied to the back of the glass — it prevents condensation building up after a shower or bath. Because the mat needs to be matched to the exact size of the mirror, this option requires direct contact — please send your preferred dimensions and I will prepare a quote.
Customisation and made-to-measure orders
Mirrors are produced individually to order. Toskania 78 is also available in other colour configurations — with a panel in shades of white, cream, graphite, black, burgundy or green, and with alternative gilding: 23-karat (warm, intense yellow gold) or 6-karat (very cool, almost silver in tone). A fully gilded version, without a painted panel, can also be made.
If you already have a vision — a reference photo, a paint sample from a wall, a fragment of fabric — please send it across and I will prepare a proposal matched to your interior. Standard production time is 20–30 working days.
