Hand-made frame gilded with real 23-karat gold leaf, with a deep navy panel painted on the front and sides. Solid wood construction, corners joined with wooden dowels. Mirror glass: SGG Miralite Pure Diamant 4 mm, OptiWhite. Made to measure.

A mirror in a navy and gold frame, where a saturated deep-blue panel meets real 23-karat gold leaf laid by hand on the outer moulding. The contrast is sharp and confident — the navy surface deepens the warmth of the gold, and the gold lifts the matte, almost nocturnal blue. The mirror holds its own on the wall: it works as a standalone decorative piece while remaining fully functional — reflecting light, making a room feel larger, organising the space around it. The Nero Glam 23K model pairs glamour aesthetics with workshop-made joinery and real hand gilding.

Where a navy & gold frame fits

A navy-and-gold palette performs best against light walls — white, pale stone, warm beige, sand. In that setting the frame truly sits on the wall and becomes the visual anchor of the room. It also pairs well with darker greens, bottle and olive, and with natural wood, marble, and exposed concrete. In contemporary glamour interiors the mirror typically finds its place above a console in the entrance, above a chest of drawers in the bedroom, above a fireplace in the living room, or above the vanity in a guest bathroom — as well as in hotel lobbies, boutiques and consulting rooms.

Craftsmanship

The frame is built from solid premium wood, cut and profiled in the workshop. Corners are joined with wooden dowels before any finishing takes place — a dowel is seated in the mortises cut into each end of the moulding, stabilising the joint and preventing the corner from opening over time. The frame keeps its geometry even in larger formats, where the moulding has to carry its own weight.

The frame is hand-made and gilded with real 23-karat gold leaf. Gold is applied leaf by leaf — each sheet measures roughly 80 × 80 mm, and on narrower sections of the moulding it is cut precisely on a gilder's pad. It is handwork that takes precision and experience: every cut, transfer and press shapes how light plays on the moulding. That is where the subtle, living texture of gilded wood comes from — something neither paint nor transfer foil can reproduce.

The panel and sides are painted in the same deep navy — front, outer edges, and the inner lip against the glass. The surface is sealed with lacquer, which protects it in daily use and keeps the colour saturation stable. Real 23-karat gold does not oxidise and does not shift in tone — the brilliance of the gilded moulding does not fade even after decades.

How this frame differs from mass production

Off-the-shelf mirror frames are most often extruded profiles — polyurethane foam or duropolymer — wrapped in a printed wood-look foil or sprayed with metallic paint. Such a frame contains no solid wood, no precious metal, and no wooden dowel in the corner. Up close the difference is clear: there is no wood grain under the finish and, in raking light, no subtle irregularity of hand-laid gold leaf.

A workshop-made frame has a different presence: you sense the wood under the gilding, you see the seams where the leaves meet, and the corners are crisp thanks to the dowel joinery. Every piece is a single realisation, which is why the finish carries small, individual variation typical of handwork.

Functionality

The mirror glass is SGG Miralite Pure Diamant 4 mm, OptiWhite — premium low-iron float glass. The reflection is colour-neutral, without the greenish cast typical of standard mirrors. The backing is MDF, and mounting is done through wall brackets that allow the mirror to hang in portrait or landscape orientation — set at the point of ordering.

Option: beveled mirror

A ground bevel up to 20 mm wide can be added for a surcharge (around 5 mm is covered by the frame rebate, leaving about 15 mm visible). The bevel introduces a line of light at the edge of the mirror — a detail that works especially well in bright daylight.

Option: anti-fog heating mat

The mirror can be fitted with an anti-fog heating mat mounted behind the glass. It keeps the surface at a slightly elevated temperature so it does not steam up after a shower or a bath — a useful option for bathrooms and guest wash rooms.

Option: LED backlight

SGG Miralite Pure Diamant has a black coating on its reverse that blocks light bleed-through, which makes it well suited for LED strips behind the glass. Running the light around the perimeter of the frame gives a soft glow around the mirror — effective in darker interiors and evening lighting schemes.

Made to measure & personalisation

Every mirror is made to order — choose the outer size from the variants in the product menu, or we build a fully custom size for a specific wall. Made-to-measure mirrors let you fit the composition to real space: above a particular console, in a narrow vertical slot beside a door, over a fireplace with non-standard proportions.

The Nero Glam frame is also available in other gilding variants: 22-karat gold (warmer, classic), 22-karat moon gold (cooler, slightly paler), 12- and 6-karat white gold (cool, almost chrome-like). The frame can also be produced in real silver leaf or in palladium, finished with either traditional shellac and wax or a protective lacquer. The panel can be specified in another colour from our curated, richly pigmented paint range, in gloss, satin, or matte.
