A large mirror in a black frame with a profiled 52 mm moulding in high gloss. Frame hand-made from solid wood, joined with wooden dowels, multi-layer painted and lacquered. Made to measure in the workshop.
A large mirror in a black frame with a high-gloss profiled moulding — a classic decorative frame whose multi-stage profile becomes genuinely legible only in larger formats. In a 40×60 cm format the cornice overwhelms the proportions; at 100×180 cm it draws the frame like a separate architectural element. The moulding is 52 mm wide — the optical middle ground between slim (25–30 mm) and heavy (80+ mm) profiles — giving the frame presence in a large format without overpowering the room. Hand-made from solid wood and joined with wooden dowels, with deep black finished in a high-gloss lacquer, it catches light from every angle and turns the mirror into a distinctive interior feature. A decorative mirror in a wide wooden frame like this anchors the composition of a whole wall.
Suggested interiors
A large mirror in a black frame works hardest in interiors built around contrast — where the black is an intentional accent, set against a light background or within a palette with one dominant dark element. It pairs best with walls in soft whites, light greys, sand-toned beiges and natural linen shades, where the glossy black becomes a sharp anchor point. It also reads well against darker grounds: deep graphite, bottle green, midnight navy, where the frame blends into the background and the profile of the moulding traces a delicate line of light. In rooms already filled with dark furniture and heavily saturated backdrops, the frame may get lost and lose its presence — in those cases a white or lighter-toned frame is usually a better choice. The piece suits a hallway, where it visually widens a narrow space; a living room above a sofa, fireplace or console table; a bedroom above a chest of drawers; and a bathroom — thanks to the multi-layer lacquering, which resists moisture. Matching leaning floor-standing mirrors in the same moulding are also available.

How it is made
The frame is hand-made from scratch in the workshop. Solid wood is mitred and joined at the corners with wooden dowels — corners stay crisp, with no visible gaps, and the frame holds its shape in large formats. Traditional craftsmanship ensures durability and elegance in every piece. After assembly, the finishing stage begins: several coats of deep black paint, sanding between coats, and a final high-gloss lacquer that gives the surface depth and mechanical resilience. The moulding profile is multi-stage — the outer edge forms a pronounced cornice that steps inward toward the rebate in two distinct levels. In high gloss, this profile really comes to life: every edge catches light at a different angle, and the frame looks different depending on where you stand. The inner panel and the sides of the frame are painted in the same deep black as the front, so the mirror looks consistent from every viewing angle.
How this frame differs from mass production
A mass-produced frame for a large mirror is typically a particleboard or MDF moulding wrapped in PVC foil printed to imitate wood, joined with staples or simple glue. After a few years the corners start to separate, the foil peels at the edges, and the surface loses its shine. This frame is hand-made from solid wood, joined with wooden dowels, and finished in layers — paint first, then lacquer, with hand-sanding between coats. Every piece passes through the craftsman's hands at every stage: cutting, joining, painting, polishing. The construction is designed to last decades, not seasons — no separating corners and no chipped lacquer after a few moves or years of use in a bathroom. Matching leaning floor-standing mirrors in the same profile are also available.
Functionality
The mirror is hung with two wall brackets mounted to the backing — either vertically or horizontally, without modifying the build. The backing is made of HDF, in a thickness matched to the mirror format. The glass is SGG Miralite® Pure Diamant 4 mm on an OptiWhite base — a low-iron glass that reflects without the greenish tint typical of ordinary mirrors. Multi-layer lacquering protects the frame against moisture, so a large mirror in a black frame can be safely installed in a bathroom.
Optional: bevelled glass
For a more refined optical effect, the mirror glass can be finished with a ground bevel up to 20 mm wide. The bevel is an angled edge that refracts light into soft rainbow reflections — in large formats it becomes a decorative feature in its own right, visible even from a distance.
Optional: anti-fog heating mat
For bathroom installations, the glass can be fitted with a heating mat — a heating layer placed behind the mirror that keeps the surface a few degrees warmer than the surrounding air. The mirror stays clear even after a long bath or shower.
Made to measure
The mirror is made to measure according to the customer's dimensions. The maximum dimension in this model is 180 cm — a guideline ladder of typical formats: 70×100 cm for a narrow hallway, 90×150 cm above a chest of drawers or console, 100×180 cm above a sofa or as a standalone wall mirror in a living room or reception hall. Colour variants are also available: the frame can be produced in any shade from a curated, richly pigmented paint range, keeping the same multi-stage profile. Instead of black, the frame can be ordered in a warm linen shade, a muted beige or any other colour from the palette. Customers can send photographs of their interior, paint samples or inspiration images, and I will match the colour and finish accordingly. Lead time is 20–40 working days — this covers the seasoning of the frame between each coat of paint and lacquer, a step that mass-produced frames skip (and which later shows up as dulling or chipping within months). The same profiled moulding is also available in a semi-matte finish — see mirror in a black profiled frame (semi-matte) for details and photographs.
