A Unique Double Frame Design

The American Box floating frame in this edition is a unique piece. It features a double-structure design – a smaller inner frame is nested within the main frame, tightly encasing the artwork. The space between the two creates a refined, carefully crafted channel that brings a sense of depth and sophistication. The artwork appears to float, without touching the outer frame, creating a subtle sense of distance and a clean, modern aesthetic.

This frame is designed to honour artworks – giving them space to shine without competition, with a keen sense of proportion and light.

Custom Colour Options & Gilding Styles

The frame pictured is hand-gilded with 23-carat gold leaf over red clay bole – a timeless combination that delivers noble glow and visual depth. The black outer edges enhance contrast and create a sense of visual openness.

Alternative gilding options are available: white gold or moon gold (22-carat), applied over clays in shades like black, brown, plum, or Victorian grey. These combinations allow precise matching with the tone and atmosphere of your artwork. Upon request, I can assist in choosing a bespoke pairing of clay colour and gold shade – in harmony with your work.

Frame Depths for Every Medium

Three inner frame depths are available to suit various surfaces:

  • 20 mm – standard for traditional stretched canvases
  • 30 mm – for deeper, heavier substrates
  • 4 mm – for professional painting panels (e.g., aluminium-backed)

Technical Notes

If your artwork is 30 mm thick, the total depth of the frame increases to around 70 mm.

For thin artworks (e.g., 4 mm), I add a subtle inner riser – a custom platform that raises the piece so it aligns perfectly with the front of the inner frame. This ensures a clean, precise overall look.

Ready to Hang & Easy to Mount

The frame comes fully prepared for hanging – complete with a cord, positioned for either vertical or horizontal display, based on your choice at checkout.

The artwork mounts directly into the inner frame using screws. You can do this yourself, or I can pre-drill mounting holes and assist with the entire framing process.
