Frame hand-made from solid wood, lacquered to a high gloss in deep black. Both edges of the frame — inner and outer — gilded with genuine 22 karat moon gold leaf. Mirror made to measure.
A black high-gloss lacquered frame with two gilded edges — inner and outer — creates a sharp, deliberate contrast. The depth of mirror-bright black meets the warm glow of genuine gold leaf, which frames the black panel on both sides. This decorative mirror brings together glamour aesthetics and the discipline of traditional craftsmanship, becoming the kind of object that defines the character of an interior. It works as a strong accent in a living room, hallway or bedroom, and because the mirror is made to measure, it adapts to any wall — from compact formats to full-height wall mirrors.
Where it fits
A black-and-gold frame suits interiors with a confident character — glamour, art déco, modern classic, as well as pared-back spaces where a single strong object replaces a collection of smaller decorations. It looks its best against warm whites, creams, sand beige and soft greys, but it also holds its own on dark, saturated walls — bottle green, navy, anthracite. In contemporary settings with brass, marble or velvet accents it becomes a natural extension of the design rather than a competing element. It belongs above a console in the entryway, over a fireplace in the living room, in the dressing area of a bedroom, and above a bathroom vanity.

Craftsmanship
Every frame is built in my workshop — from cutting the solid-wood mouldings, through traditional corner joinery, to the final finish. Corners are joined with wooden dowels before any painting begins, which gives the frame structural stability and resistance to warping over years of use. Traditional craft techniques ensure the durability and elegance of each piece.
Once the structure is ready, the frame is sanded, painted and lacquered to a high gloss in successive layers. A black high-gloss surface demands particular care — every imperfection becomes visible in the mirror-like reflection of the lacquer, so the finish is built up in stages with sanding between each coat. The result is a smooth, deep, even black with a true mirror sheen.
Both edges of the frame — the inner edge by the glass and the outer edge along the rim — are then hand-gilded with 22 karat moon gold leaf. The gold is applied leaf by leaf and gently burnished to reveal a soft, cool reflection. Moon gold has a distinctly lighter tone than classic 23 karat yellow gold leaf — paler, more restrained, with a subtle silvery note that softens the contrast against the black lacquer rather than sharpening it. Two narrow bands of pale gold frame the black panel from either side: the inner band leads the eye toward the mirror, the outer one closes the composition of the frame. The black lacquer takes on the look of a jeweller's setting, and the moulding visually deepens, gaining a refined, jewel-like quality.
The 40 mm-deep stepped moulding gives the frame a spatial, almost architectural presence. The back panel and sides of the frame are painted in the same colour as the front, so the mirror reads as a coherent object from every angle.
How this frame differs from mass production
Most glamour mirrors on the market use mouldings cast from synthetic resin or MDF wrapped in gold-imitation foil. In this frame every element is made from solid wood, joined by traditional cabinetmaking and finished by hand — from the first sanding through to the final gilding with genuine gold leaf. A frame built this way will not yellow, peel, or dull under sunlight. Each piece is made to order, in the chosen format — as a wall mirror or as a full-height standing mirror.
Functionality
Solid wall brackets are fitted to the back of the frame, allowing vertical or horizontal hanging. The MDF backing stabilises the structure and protects the glass. SGG Miralite® Pure Diamant 4 mm OptiWhite has a reduced iron-oxide content, which gives a crystal-clear reflection without the greenish cast typical of standard mirrors. The lacquered, sealed frame makes the mirror suitable for rooms with elevated humidity, including bathrooms.
Option: bevelled mirror glass
On request the glass can be finished with a ground bevel up to 20 mm wide, of which roughly 5 mm sits inside the frame rebate. The bevel adds an extra play of light along the edge of the glass and emphasises the depth of the frame.
Optional add-on: anti-fog mirror with demister pad
For bathroom installations a demister pad can be fitted behind the glass. It prevents condensation and keeps the mirror clear after a shower or bath.
Customisation and made-to-measure orders
Each mirror is made to individual order — dimensions are tailored to the specific space, and the frame finish can be adjusted to suit the interior. This frame model is also available in two other colour variants: bottle green and dark navy — each in high-gloss lacquer, with both edges of the frame gilded.
The gilding itself can also be changed. Alongside 22 karat moon gold leaf, two other tones are available: 6 karat gold leaf — very pale, with a cool, almost chrome-like reflection, closer to silver than to classic gold — and 23 karat yellow gold leaf, with a warmer, more saturated glow whose intensity does not fade with the years.
To match the colour to a specific interior, simply send a photo of the room, a link to a reference image, or a colour sample. Lead time: 20–40 working days.
