Mirror in gold frame.

This mirror in a gold frame is built around a 55 mm moulding with a softly rounded profile. The frame has gently curved, convex edges that carry light along the whole surface — the profile is strong and decorative, so the frame does not recede into the background but stands as an accent in its own right. It is gilded with real 22-karat gold leaf, available in two shades: classic yellow and a cooler moon gold with distressing. The piece is designed as a decorative focal point — functional as a mirror, but equally able to carry a wall on its own. The frame is made to measure and available as a wall-hung or leaning floor mirror.

Where this mirror works

The frame suits modern interiors with a glamour accent: living rooms in deep palettes (graphite, forest green, dark navy), hallways with a light background that lets the gold carry the wall, and bedrooms with upholstered headboards and soft-textured fabrics. The warm tone of yellow 22-karat gold sits naturally next to brass, marble and walnut-toned wood. The moon-gold 22-karat variant — cooler, with a subtly silvery cast and distressed edges — pairs better with cool greys, whites and chrome detailing.

The mirror works over a hallway console, above a fireplace, in a dressing room as a functional piece, and in the bathroom — the frame is finished with a moisture-resistant coating. Both wall-hung and leaning floor formats are available in the same moulding profile.

How the frame is made

The frame is hand-made and gilded with real gold leaf. Gold is applied leaf by leaf using traditional water gilding on prepared bole — front, profile and sides are all covered with the same metal, without painted metallic shortcuts. Traditional craft techniques give each piece durability and presence.

Two gilding finishes are available. Smooth yellow 22-karat gold delivers an even, strong shine and a classic warm tone — the frame becomes a clear dominant accent in the room. Moon-gold 22-karat leaf is cooler, with a subtly silvery reflection; after controlled distressing along the raised areas and most exposed edges, the surface shows a play of light between brighter and darker passages, giving the frame depth and a restrained, decisive character.

The moulding profile is rounded — gently curved, convex edges carry light along the whole surface of the frame, from the glass edge to the outer border. Corners are joined with wooden dowels for long-term structural stability. The reverse and side faces of the frame are fully gilded, so the piece reads consistently when viewed from the side.

How this frame differs from mass production

Most mirrors sold as "glamour" on the mass market are built from plastic or painted MDF profiles finished with metallic paint — that type of coating loses depth quickly and reads very differently from real gold both in colour and in the way it reflects light. This mirror uses a solid wood frame gilded with real 22-karat gold leaf, whose shine does not fade over the years. Each piece is made to a specific order rather than pulled from a stock of three standard sizes, and both wall-hung and leaning floor versions are available.

Functional details

The mirror is hung using wall brackets fixed to the reverse of the frame. An HDF backing board protects the mirror glass from behind and stabilises the assembly. The SGG Miralite® Pure Diamant 4 mm OptiWhite glass is low-iron, which means the reflection shows true colours without the greenish cast typical of ordinary mirrors. The frame coating is moisture-resistant, allowing the piece to be hung in a bathroom.

Bevel option

On request the mirror glass can be finished with a ground bevel up to 20 mm wide (of which roughly 5 mm sits hidden in the rebate, leaving about 15 mm visible). The bevel adds an extra line of light along the edge of the glass and deepens the decorative effect, especially under diffused evening lighting.

Optional demister pad (anti-fog)

For bathroom installations, the mirror can be ordered with a demister pad fitted behind the glass. The pad warms the mirror surface enough to prevent condensation after a bath or shower. Available in every size — please get in touch first so the pad dimensions can be matched to the specific mirror order.

Personalisation and made-to-measure orders

This mirror is made in any dimensions that fit the workshop's annual production schedule. Customers choose between two gilding finishes (smooth yellow 22-karat gold or distressed moon gold) and orientation — vertical or horizontal. The same moulding is also available as a standalone frame for a painting or artwork on request. Lead time is 20–30 working days; for larger formats or multi-piece orders please get in touch in advance to confirm the schedule.

Beveled glass edge 25 mm.

In addition we can add glass with 25 mm or custom width bevel.
