Duże lustro w srebrnej ramie ze szprosami, 80×180 cm. Rama ręcznie wykonana z litego drewna i pozłacana prawdziwym złotem płatkowym — Large mirror in a silver frame with muntins, 80×180 cm. Solid wood frame hand-made and water gilded with 12-karat white gold leaf — polished, no distressing. Mirror made to measure.
This silver-framed mirror with muntins has a bold, geometric composition — the frame is divided by muntins into rectangular fields, drawing on glamour and art déco traditions. At 80×180 cm, it becomes the anchoring piece in a contemporary interior: it extends perspective, multiplies light and underlines the character of the room. It works as a wall mirror in a hallway, living room or dressing room, where the tall vertical format reads as a focal point on the wall.
Interior styles it fits
The mirror settles naturally into several clearly defined directions:
- Hallways and entrance halls in the glamour style — the cool tone of white gold pairs with white, pearl-grey and light grey walls. The muntin pattern brings rhythm to long, narrow spaces.
- Living rooms in art déco and modern classical aesthetics — the vertical 180 cm format next to a fireplace, sofa or console reads as the centrepiece of the arrangement.
- Bedrooms and dressing rooms — 180 cm of height captures the full figure. Installed low, it reads like a standing leaning mirror.
- Modern bathrooms with chrome, nickel or polished-silver fittings — the humidity-resistant mirror glass allows placement outside the immediate shower zone.
The 12-karat white gold tone sits well with chrome, platinum, stainless steel and cool LED lighting. Against a restrained palette (white, grey, pastels, warm beige) the silver frame introduces shine without dominating.

How it is made
The frame is hand-made from high-quality solid wood. The entire surface is gilded with genuine gold leaf — 12-karat white gold — laid leaf by leaf following the traditional water gilding technique. After gilding the surface is fully polished and not distressed, giving a smooth, mirror-like finish with a cool, silvery tone that shifts between subdued pearl-silver and a sharper, defined shine depending on the light.
Corners are joined with wooden dowels. This provides structural stability and resistance to deformation over years of use. The muntins follow a precise, symmetrical scheme: a central vertical bar and horizontal bars separate the large central field from eight smaller side fields.
The muntins are structural — not decorative strips glued to a single sheet of mirror, as in mass-market imitations of this style. Each of the nine panels (one central, eight side) sits in its own frame compartment with its own MDF backing in its opening. The line of a muntin is the actual edge of wood between two adjacent panels, not an applied surface decoration. This is what gives the pattern real depth and precision visible from every viewing angle.
The back panel and the sides of the moulding are finished in the same way as the front — the frame reads uniformly from every angle.
Traditional craft techniques ensure the durability and elegance of every piece.
How it differs from mass production
Unlike serially produced mirrors sprayed with silver or chrome paint, or coated with imitation gilt, this frame carries real gilding in genuine gold leaf. Each leaf is laid by hand, producing a surface of distinctive character — one that cannot be replicated by industrial methods.
A solid wood core — rather than glued layers of composite or thin plywood — gives the frame weight, proportional precision and structural integrity in the muntins that can be felt on contact. The frame does not delaminate, warp or require renovation after a few years.
The muntins here are built into the structure: the workshop assembles the frame with nine separate openings, each with its own MDF backing and its own mirror panel. Budget mass-market solutions imitate the look by gluing decorative strips onto a single, continuous sheet of mirror — at close range the "muntin" sits flat on the glass. Here the muntins are real wooden bars with their own depth, profile and play of light.
Each piece is made individually, in a small workshop, in a limited number of units per year.
The karolmilewski.com catalogue includes both wall-mounted pieces in this style and floor-standing mirrors in different proportions and finishes — all made to measure.
Functionality
The mirror should be hung using wall brackets on a load-bearing wall (brick, concrete, or plasterboard with appropriate anchoring). Solid wood framing, nine separate mirror panels and individual MDF backings in every opening make the piece heavier than frames built from imitation mouldings — the mounting hardware should be chosen to match the specific wall.
SGG Miralite® Pure Diamant 4 mm, OptiWhite mirror glass offers very high optical clarity: the glass is free of the greenish tint typical of standard mirror sheets, rendering interior colours and skin tones faithfully. The silver reflective layer is sealed with a moisture-resistant lacquer, allowing the mirror to be installed in a hallway open to a bathroom or inside the bathroom itself, outside the immediate shower zone.
Option: bevelled mirror
The central field is finished with a ground bevel 20 mm wide. Around 5 mm of the bevel sits behind the frame rebate; the visible width is approximately 15 mm. The angled edge catches light along the central field, adding depth and amplifying the play of reflections between the white gold and the glass. The eight side fields are made without a bevel — they retain a flat, uniform surface that optically extends the central field and emphasises the precision of the muntin divisions.
Additional option: anti-fog mirror with heated pad
On request, the mirror can be fitted with a heated anti-fog pad on the back. The pad prevents condensation from forming on the surface — a practical feature for bathroom installations.
Personalisation and made-to-measure orders
This silver-framed mirror with muntins is made to individual order. Dimensions, the proportions of the central field and the muntin layout can be adjusted to the wall where the mirror will be installed — from 60×120 cm up to large wall mirrors above 200 cm in height. Decorative mirrors of this kind are produced in a limited number per year; reserving a slot in advance is recommended.
The frame can also be finished in other leaf options:
- 22-karat moon gold leaf — a cooler, lighter shade of yellow gold, subtle and matte when partially distressed.
- 23-karat yellow gold leaf — the classic, saturated warm gold shine, with brightness that does not fade over the years.
- Palladium or genuine silver leaf, sealed with protective lacquer or traditional shellac with wax — for clients looking for a pure, cool silver without the warm undertones characteristic of 12-karat white gold.
The same proportions and muntin pattern can also be produced as a floor-standing mirror or as other variants of our decorative and contemporary framed mirrors. To enquire, use the contact form on the shop or get in touch by email — we will prepare a quote and a production schedule.
