Hand-made moulding in solid wood, gilded with genuine 22-karat moon gold leaf on the edges. Black lacquered panel and sides. Mirror made to measure.
A decorative mirror in a black and gold frame Toskania — the deep black of the lacquered panel meets the warm glow of gilded edges along a classical double-moulded profile. Solid wood, hand finished, built to sit on the wall with authority rather than blend into it. A wall mirror that works equally well in modern interiors and classical arrangements, anchoring the space without competing with it.
Where this mirror belongs
Toskania suits interiors where a black accent has a job to do. A living room in muted tones — warm greys, powdery beige, deep green. A hallway with a bright wall and a slim console beneath. A dining room with a solid wood table. A bedroom with an upholstered headboard. In settings like these, a black framed mirror with gold leaf edges acts as a counterpoint to calm walls and balances the weight of heavier furniture.
The pairing of black with the quiet, cool tone of 22-karat moon gold keeps the frame settled rather than flashy. It fits classical interiors, restrained glamour, art déco, and contemporary rooms with warm metallic accents. Vertically, it works above a console in the hallway; horizontally, above a mantelpiece or a vanity.

How it is made
Every piece is built in the workshop using traditional craft methods — from preparing the solid wood moulding, through mitred corners joined with wooden dowels, to painting and gilding. The panel and sides of the frame are hand-painted in a deep black with a lacquered sheen — a colour that reflects light with restraint, without theatrical shine.
The edges — both the outer lip of the profile and the inner band at the mirror — are gilded with genuine 22-karat moon gold leaf. This shade has a cooler, calmer tone than standard 23-karat yellow; when lightly distressed, it reveals a warm, bronze-gold undertone. The effect is mature and settled, closer to antique than to new jewellery. The leaf is laid sheet by sheet — work measured in hours, not minutes.
The moulding profile is a classical Tuscan shape: a double tier with a legible curve and a stepped offset that gives the frame visual depth and lets the mirror sit forward from the wall. Wooden dowels at the corners hold the construction stable and resistant to warping over years of use.
How this differs from mass-produced frames
Ready-made frames from a DIY store are bonded from thin composite strips, spray-painted, and their “gold” elements are usually metallic lacquer or foil imitations. They look familiar for the first few months — then they stain, chip at the corners, and fade.
Toskania is different on every one of these points. Solid wood instead of board. Hand painting instead of spray. Real gold leaf instead of imitation. Mitres joined with wooden dowels instead of staples. A difference you can see immediately, and one that stays. Every piece is made to order — the same profile is available as a wall mirror or, in larger formats, as a floor-standing mirror.
Function
The wall brackets are mounted on the back of the frame, ready to hang without additional hardware. The backing is HDF, which protects the reverse of the glass and gives the construction rigidity. The SGG Miralite® Pure Diamant 4 mm OptiWhite glass provides increased light transmission and a neutral reflection, free of the greenish tint typical of standard glass — particularly important with a dark frame, where contrast depends on the purity of the glass. The mirror is moisture-resistant and suitable for bathroom installation, provided the room has standard ventilation.
Option: mirror with a ground bevel
A version with a ground bevel up to 20 mm is available. In this variant the glass is 5 mm OptiWhite. The bevel refines the edge, adds optical depth, and works particularly well with the Tuscan profile — especially in larger formats, where the mass of the mirror asks for an extra detail.
Additional option: anti-fog mirror with heating mat
The mirror can be fitted with a heating mat that prevents condensation on the surface — useful in bathrooms, where the mirror stays clear after a shower. The mat is silent, integrated into the back of the mirror, and operated by a switch. Please get in touch with the dimensions and the option will be added to the variants.
Personalisation and made to measure
Toskania is made to measure — any size, from a small vanity mirror to a large statement piece for a hallway or living room. Mounting orientation (vertical or horizontal) is your choice; the panel colour can also be adjusted if you prefer a different muted tone while keeping the gilded edges. Lead time depends on the format and finish — typically 4–8 weeks. Please send dimensions and references, and I will prepare an individual quote.
